My Sleep On Sleep Patterns - 857 Words

I have fallen asleep every night for the last 22 years, but yet I never analyzed my own sleep pattern. Never truly aware of what time I fell asleep, whether I dreamt every night, or the quality of my sleep. All I knew was that the older I got, the more lethargic I got, and the more caffeine I consumed. Now given the opportunity to monitor my sleep for five nights with the use of a sleep diary I have better knowledge of my sleep patterns. Basing my sleep patterns on concepts learned in class, I was able to understand my sleep, and apply different issues I experienced each night to the resolutions I learned. Hopefully, after my sleep diary I will know how to improve my quality of sleep on a regular basis based on concepts learned in class. On the first night I was on the verge of excitement about starting my sleep diary so I fell asleep at 11:29 P.M. I assumed I would have a regular nights’ sleep, until I heard my name being called. Feeling like I was in a horror movie I awakened instantly in fear, to a cold sweat and rapid heartbeat. Let’s face it, my name is not a common everyday name, so I was terrified until I recalled hypnagogic hallucination. Hypnagogic hallucinations occur at the onset of sleep (NREM) as the small, fast beta brain waves turn into large slower alpha brain waves (140). As I checked the time it was only 11:32 P.M. making this the perfect explanation for this bizarre phenomenon. I then proceeded to fall back to sleep, and woke up at 6:00 A.M. Humorous Wedding Speech by the Best Man Essay - 684 Words

Humorous Wedding Speech by the Best Man When Daniel came to me and asked me to be his best man, it was a great honour but, when I looked at all the duties required of me, I felt he’d be better off choosing someone else. Then he offered me a fifty, but I told him that it wasn’t a decision that money could change. So then he offered me a hundred. Anyway, good evening Ladies and Gentlemen - My name is Rob and it’s my pleasure to be Daniels best man today. So let me tell you about all those best man duties that originally concerned me, because I was immediately stumped by the first one: ‘ensure that the groom’s face and hair are in order.’ Well Daniel, I have to say that if nature didnt get them in order the first time around,†¦show more content†¦Now, I hope you also noticed that, as well as on time, the bridegroom arrived sober – another achievement which shouldn’t be underestimated. Because Daniel does enjoy a drink from time to time, and at one point he even attempted to brew his own beer. Now most people would use berries, fruits or flowers to produce alcohol. But Daniel was the first to try fermented goats milk. He believed his beer would have nutritive value and while you may not find his brew on the off license shelves, you will still find it bubbling away in Daniel’s bedroom. I just hope he hasn’t brought a barrel of it along today in attempt to save a few quid. Which reminds me, I was astonished to learn, that by tradition, I am supposed to bring a cheque book or credit card to settle any payments the bridegroom may have forgotten. I wasn’t too happy about this, because everyone who has ever lent Daniel money has one thing in common †¦ nothing! Kim, if ever you need the house to yourself or some time apart from Daniel, just lend him some money – you won’t see him for days. The most enjoyable best man duty is of course arranging the stag weekend. The Social Invention Of Marriage - 928 Words

SECTION THREE The social invention of marriage has changed over time, and as discussed above, it is no longer acceptable to separate black people from white while claiming to treat them â€Å"equally†. Similar to this, we cannot claim to be treating homosexuals equally, while enforcing laws that exclude them. The progression that our country has made towards civil rights have come about simply because we are all citizens of the United States. In a society so richly entrenched in the search for and the maintenance of equality, with a specified legal separation between church and state, we cannot ethically allow laws to be enacted based on the religious beliefs of specific groups of people. So, if the definition of marriage for one group of people holds its convictions in religious or biological nature, it should not be inflicted upon all citizens. The strongest argument in this debate lies in favor of granting same-sex couples the ability to have their relationships legally recognized as a marriage, if that is what they choose. â€Å"One of the most basic principles of our society is that the government must offer all opportunities equally unless there is some good reason to do otherwise† (Rajczi, pg. 476). In keeping with our constitutional rights, opportunities and privileges such as marriage must be made available to everyone. Opponents of this argument believe that they are not excluding anyone from being married- as long as it is to a person of the opposite sex. ————————————————- A. ————————————————- Introduction/Statement of the Problem: As the executive director of the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA), Bob Goodenow is faced with the issue of developing a communications strategy for the NHLPA. It must establish a strong bargaining stance for the players that effectively communicate their position on the salary cap issue, while also retain the loyalty of hockey fans. We will write a custom essay sample on Case Study – Make Green Delicious or any similar topic only for you Order Now B. ————————————————- Analysis: The current Collective Bargaining Agreement includes a limited salary cap and entry-level salary cap, and expires September 15th, 2004. It is no longer successful at controlling rapid growth in player salaries and forming a direct link between salary growth and league revenues. The Unified Report of Operations claims that the majority of NHL teams have lost money in recent years. Owners believe that there are â€Å"major deficiencies in the current contract that has led to significant financial losses and a competitive imbalance. Smaller teams can’t compete with larger teams; therefore the league can’t be competitive. There is a transition from a local market to a league-wide market, so players’ salaries are escalating to levels that are unsustainable. Entry-level salary caps are ineffective due to signing bonuses. The NHL revenue growth equals 173%, while the players’ salary growth equals 261% over the term of the CBA. The players’ salaries account for 75% of NHL revenues, which is much higher than other sports. Owners believe a mechanism is needed to control player salaries and tie them to revenues. Players question the validity of the financial information, URO, and Levitt Report. Players argue against the proposed solutions and say free market forces should determine players’ salaries. There is no validity in the owners’ financial statements, which may support that the lack of revenues is due to poor business decisions, not high player salaries. C. ————————————————- Alternatives: A) Strategy that focuses on the players’ current stance on the salary cap, using free market forces, questionable financial validity, and poor business decisions as their platforms for gaining the media and the fans support. B) Strategy that emphasizes on the lack of financial transparency of the NHL and its owners that has led a delayed agreement. C) Continue with the current communications strategy. D. ————————————————- Recommendation: Bob is recommended to choose alternative A and pursue a communications strategy, which emphasizes the NHL players’ current position on the proposed salary cap. E. ————————————————- Implementation Plan: Bob should begin by clearly establishing the players’ values and goals in regards to the negotiation and how he intends on communicating them to reach the fans. This would involve taking the players’ stance on the salary cap and communicating it consistently through the NHLPA’s website, players’ personal social media, radio interviews, etc. It would include reasoning to support the players’ position, such as the lack of transparency and validity in financial information presented by the NHL owners, as well as the importance of free markets in the determination of salaries. By using the players as a source of free media and publicity, the NHLPA can emphasize their position and sympathize with the fans and their common love for the game. Here, the players can explain that a salary cap would essentially be equal to a salary cut for players. This is something that nobody would agree with if it came to their own job, whether they are rich or poor. By effectively communicating the players’ stance on the proposed salary cap to the fans and public, the NHLPA can gain a favourable bargaining position over the NHL owners for the upcoming negotiations in September 2004. It will also help retain fan loyalty to the NHL and its organizations, which is a common interest for both parties. How to cite Case Study – Make Green Delicious, Free Case study samples

Song Dynasty Poetry Essay Example For Students

Song Dynasty Poetry Essay Song dynasty classical poetry (shi) is often called philosophical (li) ? compared to the more emotional (qing) ? poetry of earlier dynasties. I believe this statement is true since Song shi has always been implanted some rational truth/connotation and there are few examples to illustrate why I will stand for this side. By looking at Visiting west-of-the-mountain village ? by Lu You, this is an excellent poetry that describes countrysides people and their simple lifestyles. Lu wrote about how beautiful is the scenery with mountains and rivers, and he put some his own philosophy into the view. Hills in layers, stream after stream, it seems theres no way through; willows conceal, the flower are bright, then here is another village ?, if we just look at this poetry directly, we will have a view that Lu is hiking, walking along the rivers, enjoying the beauty of nature; however, as he keeps walking into the green mountains, he sees lot more vegetation lush, winding trails, which makes him more difficult to identify the following path. When he is confused about where he should go next, he saw some peasant huts, looming between the flower and trees pond. He finds a new village and he is enlightened. We know that how excited and happy he would be because we can just imagine when we are getting lost in a mountain, and then suddenly we find a way out. So this poem seems to be talking about the poet personal qing with these charming, cheerful and, lively sentences. However, if we talk about this poem now, it would be probably when someone gets stuck about his learning and study, which is similar to the poem (getting confused and not sure whether they are on the right track). If, however, perseverance to move forward, just like what the poet does in the poem, hold the faith, and they will finally see a ray of light ahead of them, which will lead them to a new world of unprecedented. This poem is used to inspire people nowadays, and I think this is the real message what Lu You wants to bring out, a philosophy of what he believes. For a Song shi, it often describes from two sides. One is grieving and passionate, which is always about taking a national revenge, to fight back the lost territory, and free the people who are captured by the enemy. The other one is talking about leisurely exquisite living style, reviews about the current life and then point out the hidden meaning behind the daily life. Lu Yous Visiting west-of-the-mountain village ? is the second type of Songs poetry. At that moment, Lu was dismissed from his job from the imperial court, and stayed at home have nothing to do. The reason he got expelled is his peer did not like him. After he went back home, he was depressed and distressing; however, he still held his faith. He felt hopeful about his rural life because of his patriotism, and he put all this feeling into poetry creation, which made him a legend in the history. We can see that even he has been excluded and disadvantaged ringleader, his patriotic enthusiasm has not been cut by a little. There is also another famous poetry, which is created by Lu You. It is named For My Son ?, Lu created this out when he is dying on his bed. In the poem, it expressed that Lu You still cannot see the day that Song dynasty can rise again. This has shown a strong patriotic passion of Lu. Forget not in our family rites to let this old man know. ? Lu knew that everything would be meaningless to him after he dies, but there is still one thing he cannot give up on. It is Song still cannot quell the whole China, and this is his last wish. Therefore, when he is on his deathbed, he still told his kids that if Song could really quell one day, do not forget to tell him the good news of victory even he is dead. .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6 , .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6 .postImageUrl , .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6 , .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6:hover , .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6:visited , .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6:active { border:0!important; } .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6:active , .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6 .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u18219fc320a8dc8ef08001d5928e96d6:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Poetry Test EssayThe shi shows a painful sincere emotion with a text plain, which also showed that how Lu believed that Song could finally restore one day. For My Son ? is a summary of the poets lifetime of revenge and lofty ideal. It is also the artwork of his patriotism thought. He believes that Song will one day be unified. There is nothing about his own family in his last poem, the only thing he cared about before his death is his lovely nation. The only regret he has is he cannot see his nation being rise again. The li from this poem is patriotism should be our infinite and unique faith. Dying now, I know full well that nothing truly matters, and yet I am sad I didnt not see China united once more ?. From the inspiration of this shi, Lu only wanted to tell us one thing, how to shape our personality to be a good person, to be a patriotic person. From the two shi I have discussed above, Song poetry focuses more on reasoning, and expression on inspiration a fact. The poetry would be fill with the poet thought and some philosophical ideas. Song poetry is meaningful, inspirational, poetic flavor and stimulated the enthusiasm of our exploration of truth more than expressing personal emotion.

Persuasive Argumentative Essay on Online Betting

Question: Write about the Persuasive Argumentative Essay on Online Betting. Answer: Introduction Online betting refers to the gambling of the cash or maybe something that is of worth on an event with a hesitant result with the primary intention of winning money or the material products. Online betting needs about three constituents to be present that happen to be consideration, chance and prize (Ahlin, 2007). The outcome of the wager is usually frequently instant, such as just one roll of the dice, a spin of the roulette wheel or maybe a horse that could be crossing the end line. Online betting continues to be an important global industrial activity, with the authorized gambling marketplace totalling to an approximated three hundred billion dollars by the year 2009. Online betting might be carried out with the components that have a valuation. The internet has found new types of gambling to form online (Andrle, 2004). As a result of the improvement of the technology, it has changed on the habits of betting. Betting has become one of the most popular as well as lucrative business present in the internet an example of this was in the UK where the gambling commission stated that the betting industry had achieved a turnover of more than eighty four million pounds (Braun Kvasnicka, 2013). This was mainly due to the various betting options, which are available in order to facilitate the different types of individuals. Issues Surrounding Government Allowing Singapore Pools and Turf Club Lottery Operators to Offer Online Betting The government previously had placed a ban on the remote gambling, which did not allow individuals to bet online (Hurt, 2006). The reason surrounding the government allowing these lottery operators to offer online betting is to help curb the drive to demand for the underground betting. In the event that the government banning the gambling there would be many underground betting that, the government did not have control over (Woolley, 2003). This could have created larger incentives for the criminal syndicates to target the Singaporeans individual. Complete ban could have not have stopped the illegal online to stop. According to the survey which was done by the Ministry of home affairs of more than one thousand internet users showed that in three individuals out of ten acknowledged that they had engaged in the remote gambling of at least once in the past years (Wood Williams, 2007). Prohibition of the online gambling would have led to black market in Singapore, which are unregulated sites (Hurt, 2006). The government felt the need to permit these lottery operators to do online betting so that they could easily monitor the activities as well as set policies to regulate the online betting. The aspect of the black market could have a potential dangerous to the consumer, as there are certainly high threat of this kind of websites from deceitful concerning who their customers are, in regards for not employing of strict control, which regards to the identity verification, protection of the problem of the gamblers and the age limits (Andrle, 2004). If the market was regulated the consumers could use the sites that are licensed as opposed to turn to the black market website. This means that the authorities experienced theneed to focus their attention to ensure that these licensed sites comply strictly in terms of the age controls, through introduction of the measures that are designed to protect the problem of the gamblers, and through paying of the relevant duty and r eporting on activities that are suspicious (Gainsbury, 2012). Therefore, the moral issues is to enable the government to protect the minors as well as the family members of the gamblers. Argument for the Government Allowing Lottery Operators to Offer Online Betting One of the reason for the upholding the government decision to allow the operator is due to the problem of gambling or the addition. Singapore has permitted forms of the physical wagering these types of actions are actually launched owning restrictions to an make an effort to protect the citizens of Singapore along with the permanent citizens from the dangers of the problem of gambling along with addition ( Henderson , 2012 ) . These types of concerns usually are possibly more powerful particularly when one perceives the online gambling since there is a lot of the perceived stigma especially when one is seen gambling could disappear since it can be done in privacy at owns home or perhaps through a mobile phone. Since gambling is done in a way that is secretive, it may be less likely for those suffering to be identifies and helped by members of the family (Hurt, 2006). The government upholding the decision for the lottery operators to offer the online betting would help to monitor on the youth gambling. The online gambling essentially present concerns in regards to the ability of the young individual to bypassing the age checks (Ahlin, 2007). The online gambling operators can control the government implementing on the measures to curb the age control. Further, there are concerns of the internet betting on the criminal use on the money laundering. If the government did not allow these operators to operate some crime groups, could open online gambling account with large amount of money, gamble it a few time and then close the account, and cash out (Griffiths, 2010). The government allowing these operators licenses to operate would allow them to monitor on the users who sign to these site through the restriction, which they will implement in these companies. The combination for the Singapore on the existing restrictions regulatory approach in regards to the regulatory stance seems that Singapore would likely follow the example of the USA and Hong Kong as well as generate a model to which prohibits the online betting but to accommodate a variety of limited exemptions control ( Braun Kvasnicka , 2013 ) . Nevertheless , at this point there is certainly a lot little to indicate precisely of what exemptions might be regarded by the regulators , but the reports that the measures that are being taken by the Singapore pools recommends the present licensed operators will be considered by they will fall under a certain exemption. Argument Against upholding of the Decision of the Government If these companies are given the go ahead to operate the online betting there is likelihood of the youth engaging to online betting (Wood Williams, 2007). The online gambling has presented certain worries in regarding the ability of the teenagers bypassing the age checks. Furthermore, this really is a threat with the physical wagering in which underage gambling is clear-cut to the law enforcement. According to the Minister Iswaran has highlighted that there has been remote gambling which could be easily be accessed via the net and via the cellular applications particularly to the younger as well as the tech savvy generation (Henderson, 2012). Additionally, it can be noted that if these companies were allowed to operate these online gambles there would be likely activities such as money laundering by the criminals where they could easily sign in and put a sizable sum of cash wager a few times after which cash out the money. The money could then appears as if it is the gambling winnin gs. Conclusion Based on the finding highlighted above in my own view I believe the government did a good thing upholding on the decision to allow the two lottery operators to offer the online betting. Allowing this organization means that the government can easily monitor their activities through setting of regulations which will guide them in their operation. For the fear of losing the Licences these, company will observe the regulatory of the government. Moreover, if the government did not allow the online betting there would be underground black market, which will rise up, and these could lead to activities such as money laundering by the terrorist. Then decision by the Singapore government has brought forms of the gambling under the regulatory framework, as well as ensure that the taxes are paid and the proceed channeled to valuable social, charitable causes.
